I had an 8.1 client that worked fine before the Win10 upgrade, but after the upgrade I had to do the above to get the Hyper-V management console to work properly.
Again, the remote 2012R2 host had the f script run against it (and rebooted) before attempting this on the client. You should be able to add the remote server and see the VMs running on the host. If using the "runas" method I'm describing here, run virtmgmt.msc as the administrative user from step 1 (create a new shortcut for virtmgmt.msc somewhere, then shift-right click and select "Run as different user") Right-click "My Computer" and select propertiesĬlick "Edit Limits" under Access PermissionsĬlick the "Allow" box for "Remote Access", and click "OK" Because I don't ever log into anything directly with admin creds, I am using this method.īrowse within dcomcnfg to Component Services -> Computers -> My Computer If you're using your own local account on the Win10 box, it will need a matching (administrative) account on the remote Hyper-V server for this to work without having to "runas" the Hyper-V MMC. You'll need to run as a different user on the Hyper-V MMC to make this work.

If using the "runas" method, on the Windows 10 client make sure that there is an administrative user enabled that is also an administrative user on the server, and of course with matching passwords.

I have it working today on Win10 Pro - I ran hvremote on the Server portion to set that up (2012R2) in the past when the client I was using was running 8.1 Pro, but after the upgrade it of course was totally broken. Hence, the error is related to domain authentication.Įdit: For this error, check the recommended solution here Note that both my Hyper-V host and the Windows 10 圆4 client that I just setup is not domain-joined.
You can get more information about that by running the following command: winrm help config. Note that computers in the TrustedHosts list might not be authenticated. If the authentication scheme is different from Kerberos, or if the client computer is not joined to a domain, then HTTPS transport must be used or the destination machine must be added to the TrustedHosts configuration setting. The operation on computer 'Arstotzka' failed: The WinRM client cannot process the request. Check that the Virtual Machine Management Service is running and that you are authorized to connect to the server. This is critical as we use vms for our clients VPN access.Įdit: has anyone successfully connected via Hyper-V Manager in Windows 10 Rtm (obviously Pro or Enterprise) to a Hyper-V 2012 R2 instance, even in a domain?Įdit 2: I frankly don't understand why this is being downvoted, I'm honestly asking for help.įirst attempt: An error occurred while attempting to connect to server "Arstotzka".
So, just to be exhaustive, RSAT ARE NOT REQUIRED for managing Hyper-V, the Manager included as an OS component in Windows client OSs is sufficient, as it has always been.Įverything is correctly configured with the f script, as I am running in a small workgroup.ĭo I need RSAT for win 10? They're not out yet, but on win 8.1 such tool wasn't necessary as the local Hyper-V manager did just fine. I have no idea what changed in Win10 that demands PSRemoting enabled server-side, previously anonymous DCOM and WinRM were sufficient for managing Hyper-V in workgroup. THIS PROCEDURE WAS NEVER NECESSARY FOR 8.1 CLIENTS I truly do not know why this was necessary, but after doing everything detailed in the comments here, I finally got it working.Īssign all mirrored accounts to Administrators Group (previous config worked with them belonging only to Hyper-V Administrators local group) BIG THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR HELPING ME DEBUG THIS!
